goo.gl/PliqedBroadly speaking, there are three basic elements which make up the Cinematic Effect or the Film Look. In other words, cinematic color grading must involve these three fundamental elements:
1. A Cinematic Effect is a little faded. It can have as much contrast as you desire but the darkest area will be a little brighter and the brightest area will be a little darker. Of course, there are some exceptions, however, this is the most common element we observe in almost all film effects.
2. A Film has a little tint to it. It can be warm or cool, have different colors in highlights and shadows, giving it a little cross processing effect.
3. Aspect Ratio: If you apply the standard aspect ratios for cinema or perform some research to find out the aspect ratio of whatever film or camera you are emulating, it would make a tremendous difference in getting your image dramatically closer to the traditional look.
Apart from these three elements, you can incorporate other elements as well, like noise, dust and scratches and even light leaks to make your images more creative.
